Dr. Underwood has extensive experience in the fields of ultrafast laser spectroscopy, alternative energy, nanotechnology, and advanced materials. Dr. Underwood began his career in science with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Colorado State University. From there, he obtained a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, with a focus on ultrafast spectroscopy, photovoltaics, and nanotechnology from Vanderbilt University. As a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Underwood built ultrafast laser systems and performed cutting-edge research in ultrafast spectroscopy.
As an author or co-author of over 20 scientific publications, Dr. Underwood enjoyed a distinguished career in experimental science before transitioning to the field of patent law. Dr. Underwood is a registered United States patent agent who developed his legal skills during his tenure at the law firm of Fish & Richardson, P.C. During that time, he was engaged in both litigation and prosecution matters in a wide variety of technology areas.
Dr. Underwood is a father of three, pilot, retired skydiving instructor and captain on a metropolitan fire department, and an avid fan (and player) of ice hockey.
